Semester Empat Daring (Study From Home Fourth Semester)

Selamat datang di blog ngga jelas ini kawan-kawanπŸ˜€. Bulan September ini aku akan melanjutkan perkuliahan semester 5 yang juga dilakukan secara online. Lah kok tiba-tiba semester 5? Okee lah kita balik lagi ke bulan Februari dulu yok ketika Covid-19 lagi panas-panasnya.
Welcome back to another post of my blog, fellas πŸ˜€. Before this September ends and I woke up get it? wake me up when september ends, no? okay, to my 5th semester, I'd like to tell you how my 4th semester goes, and we will travel back to February when all this covid-19 was still 'news'.

Semester 4 aku mengambil 23 kredit. Mata kuliah yang kuambil yaitu Dasar-Dasar Akuakultur 2 sks, Dasar-Dasar Genetika 3 sks, Fisiologi Hewan Air 3 sks, Manajemen Agribisnis Perikanan 2 sks, Oseanografi 3 sks, Pengantar Bioteknologi Perikanan 2 sks, Pengantar Ekonomi Perikanan 2 sks, Perencanaan Usaha Perikanan 2 sks, ditambah Nutrisi dan Manajemen Pakan Ikan 3 sks. 5 Praktikum doang, kecil.
I took 23 credits in 4th semester. I took 9 classes which are Principle of Aquaculture (2), Principle of Genetics (3), Fish Physiology (3), Fisheries Agribusiness Management (2), Oceanography (3), Introduction to Fisheries Biotechnology (2), Introduction to Fisheries Economic (2), Fisheries Business Planning (2), Nutrition and Fish Feed Management (3).

Awalnya perkuliahan berlangsung dengan normal di ruang kelas walaupun isu Covid-19 sedang menghangat πŸ”₯. Barulah kampusku menerapkan lockdown dan memberlakukan pembelajaran daring pada 16 Maret 2020.
The lecture was conducted normally (in class) in February and March, until my country and university decide to lockdown people and send students home. Since 16 March 2020, my ass have to stay in bed for 4 months before I took a step outside πŸ”₯ (dramaqueen).

Kelas Dasar-Dasar Akuakultur 🐟 atau Daskua aku mempelajari tentang: ruang lingkup; pengertian dan perkembangan akuakultur di Indonesia dan dunia; keunggulan dan kelemahan akuakultur; persyaratan fisika biologi dan ekonomi akuakultur; wadah, sistem, dan teknologi akuakultur; dan sustainable aquaculture.
In Principle of Aquaculture class, we studied the scope of aquaculture; definitions, history, and development of aquaculture; advantages and disadvantages of aquaculture; aquaculture physics, biology, and economic requirements; container, system, and technology of aquaculture; and sustainable aquaculture πŸŸ.

Kelas Daskua ini cukup mudah dilewati. Menariknya, dosenku mengadakan kuliah tamu pada Rabu, 19 Februari 2020 dengan pembicara dari alumni Perikanan 1997 yaitu bu A. Trianita Hesti, S.Pi., M.M.A., salah satu tokoh dibalik berdirinya start-up FisTx oleh Mitra Sejahtera Membangun Bangsa. Start-up beliau bergerak di bidang penerapan internet of things (IoT) dalam perikanan khususnya budidaya. FisTx memberi rekomendasi kepada pembudidaya ikan untuk melakukan aktivitas apa saja pada esok hari berdasarkan machine learning πŸ’»dan database yang diperoleh baik pada hari itu maupun hari sebelum-sebelumnya. 
This class was relatively easy to pass. On 19th February, my professor invited an alumni as guest speaker. She is A. Trianita Hesti, S.Pi, M.M.A., a 1997 Fisheries Department alumni. She were one of the founder of FisTx (read as Fishtec, idk why), a startup company where they use Internet of Things (IoT) for aquaculture. FisTx helps people to choose eficient method to farm fishes by using sensors, machine learning πŸ’», and existed database to tell them what to do tomorrow.

Selanjutnya ada Dasar-Dasar Genetika atau Dasgen. Dosen kelas ini dari Fakultas Biologi UGM yaitu Dra. Tuty Arisuryanti, M.Sc., Ph.D. Beliau merupakan pakar dalam bidang genetika. Di kelas ini kami belajar mulai dari DNA 🧬, gen, kromosom, siklus sel, prinsip mendel, pengembangan pewarisan pada ikan, penentuan jenis kelamin dan rangkai kelamin ikan, tes chi square, DNA barcoding, epigenetik, dan genetika molekuler.
Next, we got Principle of Genetics class. The lecturer for this class was from Faculty of Biology UGM, Dra. Tuty Arisuryanti, M.Sc., Ph.D. She's an expert in genetics. We learned genetics stuffs that are DNA πŸ§¬, gen, chromosome, cell cycle, mendel principles, development of fish inheritance, fish sex and sex linkage, chi square test, DNA barcoding, epigenetic, and molecular genetics. 

Praktikum Dasgen seharusnya dilakukan di Lab Akuakultur dan meliputi 6 acara yaitu dominansi, teori kemungkinan, karyotipe, sex linkage, preparasi kromosom, dan hibridisasi. Kami menghitung kemungkinan menggunakan tes chi square. Di karyotipe kami menghitung panjang kromosom dan mengurutkannya. Preparasi kromosom dilakukan dengan menghentikan siklus sel pada tahap anafase.
Genetics laboratory practices at Aquaculture laboratory covered 6 topics. And those are: dominance, probability theory, karyotype, sex linkage, chromosome preparation, and hybridization. We counted probability using simple theory and chi square test. In karyotyping, we measured chromosomes length and sorted them. Chromosome preparation was done with stopping cell cycle at anafase.  

Tipe kromosom ikan itu bisa berbeda-beda lho. Tipe seperti manusia yaitu XY/XX pun ada di ikan, contohnya pada Tilapia niloticus, Cyprinus carpio, dan Poecilia Reticulata. Lalu ada tipe XO/XX di ikan Sternoptyx diaphana, tipe ZW/ZZ di Tilapia aurea, Anguilla japonica, dan Gambusia affinis, dan lain-lain. Rangkai kelamin adalah gen yang terpaut pada kromosom seks, contohnya pada Poecilia reticulata yaitu gen warna seperti sifat caudalis (Xcp) dan maculatus (Ymc). Menarik dipelajari nih untuk budidaya ikan hias.
FYI, fish chromosomes are unique. Human type sex chromosomes (XY/XX) exist in fish such as Tilapia niloticus, Cyprinus carpio, and Poecilia reticulata. Then there's XO/XX type in Sternoptyx diaphana, ZW/ZZ type in Tilapia aurea, Anguilla japonica, and Gambusia affanisis, and many more. Sex linkage is a gen that is linked to sex chromosomes, for example, caudalis (Xcp) and maculatus trait (Ymc) in Poecilia reticulata. Hmm, interesting.

Kalian tahu fisiologi kan? Fisiologi adalah cabang ilmu yang mempelajari fungsi dan mekanisme suatu organisme. Di kelas Fisiologi Hewan Air atau FHA kami mempelajari osmoregulasi ikan, sistem pernafasan, peredaran darah, pencernaan, endokrin, reproduksi, syaraf, imun, otot dan rangka ikan. Selain ikan pelagis, kita juga mempelajari filum Mollusca dan subfilum Crustacea. 
If you read this blog, surely you know about fish physiology. What's physiology you say?? Physiology is a science to study the function and mechanism of systems in any organism. In Fish Physiology class, we studied osmoregulation, fish respiratory, blood circulation, metabolism, digestion, endocrine system, reproduction, immune system, muscle and skeletal system.  

Praktikum FHA di Lab Hidrobiologi sangat asyik, setidaknya sampai kami dipulangkan. Kami menghitung eritrosit dan leukosit ikan dengan mengecat sel darah, laju konsumsi oksigen (LKO) ikan, total protein plasma, kadar hemoglobin, belajar mengenai haemolymph atau darah udang 🦐, pH darah ikan, hematokrit dan leukokrit, serta hitung jenis leukosit. Sayang sekali praktikumnya ga bisa foto-foto & daring.
Laboratory practices held at Hydrobiology Laboratory for Fish Physiology class were fun, at least until we got our asses sent home. We counted eritorist and leukosit with painting technique, oxygen consumption rate (OCR), total plasma protein, hemoglobin rate, haemolymph or shrimps blood πŸ¦, hematokrit & leukokrit, blood pH, and leukocite. It's sad to practice online by simulation

Kemudian ada kelas Manajemen Agribisnis Perikanan atau MAP. Mmm kelas ini cukup monoton karena belajar mengenai teori manajemen di kelas terus. Semoga kalian mengalami sendiri ya!
My next class was Fisheries Agribusiness Management. I won't talk much about this lecture because it's pretty monotone in my opinion. We were like, relearn management theories in Management 101 back in 1st semester.

Selanjutnya ada Oseanografi. Kelas Oseanografi cukup menarik karena dosenku, Dr. Ir. Djumanto, M.Sc. menampilkan video fenomena laut seperti tsunami yang menghantam Jepang πŸŒŠπŸ—Ύ. Kami belajar karakteristik air, arus air laut, angin, gelombang, pasang-surut, produktivitas primer (PP), kimia oseanografi, siklus N & C di lautan, biologi oseanografi seperti zooplankton dan nekton.
Oceanography class, hooray. This class is exciting because my lecturer, Dr. Ir. Djumanto, M.Sc showed us many ocean phenomenon such as tsunami in Japan πŸŒŠπŸ—Ύ, and volcanic activity in Hawaii. We learned water characteristic, ocean current, wind and tide, ocean tidal, primary productivity, marine chemistry, N & C cycle in ocean, and marine biology aspect such as zooplankton and nekton

Praktikum Oseanografi menarik sekali. Praktikum ini dilakukan di Pantai Sundak dan Pantai Ngandong, DIY, pada Sabtu, 14 Maret 2020. Kami dibagi menjadi 3 pos yang mengukur parameter fisika, kimia, dan biologi laut. Di pos fisika, kami mengukur suhu air & udara, pH air, arah dan kecepatan angin 🎐, frekuensi gelombang dan tinggi pasang surut. Walau dilakukan hanya dalam setengah hari, kami cukup mendapatkan gambaran. Pos biologi kami menangkap plankton dengan plankton net dan larva ikan menggunakan jaring larva, dan mengukur klorofil-a. Pos Kimia seperti biasa yaitu mengukur salinitas, DO, dan CO2 terlarut. Densitas dan diversitas plankton dihitung di laboratorium ekologi perairan.
Oceanography field practice is memorable. We went to Sundak and Ngandong beach in Southern Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta on 14th March, 2 days before lockdown happened. We were observing the ocean for half a day. We were divided into 3 post, in physics parameter post, we measure water temperature, pH, direction and wind speed πŸŽ, beach slope, wave frequency, and tidal height. We pretty much got the gist of it. In biology parameter post, we caught plankton and fish larvae using larva net, and measure chlorophyll-a using chlorophyll turbidity meter that uses light sensor. In chemistry parameter we measure salinity, DO, and dissolved CO2. Plankton density and diversity were supposed to be determined at Aquatic Ecology lab.

Selanjutnya ada Pengantar Bioteknologi Perikanan atau mudahnya Biotek. Disini kami mempelajari biologi sel, sejarah dan perkembangan bioteknologi, teknik PCR, bioteknologi kelautan, bioteknologi pengolahan, dan bioteknologi budidaya. Bioteknologi dapat digunakan untuk obat-obatan, probiotik, deteksi penyakit, pengolahan limbah, teknik monitoring sumberdaya perairan, budidaya berkelanjutan, dan lain-lain.
Moving on, Introduction of Fisheries Biotechnology. We studied cell biology, history and biotechnology development, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), marine biotechnology, application of biotechnology in food processing, fisheries resource management, and aquaculture. As you know, biotechnology is used in drugs and medicine production such as probiotic, disease detection using PCR, waste processing, fisheries resource monitoring, sustainable aquaculture, etc.

Di kelas Pengantar Ekonomi Perikanan (PEP) kita belajar mulai dari dasar, yaitu ekonomi makro, ekonomi mikro, permintaan dan penawaran, modal usaha πŸ’°, subsidi & pajak serta pengaruhnya ke pengembangan usaha perikanan, model-model kelembagaan usaha perikanan, serta pembentukan harga pasar perikanan. 
In Introduction to Fisheries Economy class, we learned the principle of economy, micro and macro economy, supply and demand, business capital πŸ’°, subsidy and taxes, fisheries institution model in Indonesia, and how fisheries market price.

Contoh lembaga usaha perikanan yaitu KUB (Kelompok Usaha Bersama) perikanan tangkap, Pokdakan (Kelompok Budidaya Perikanan), dan Poklashar (Kelompok Pengolahan Hasil Perikanan). Praktikum PEP kami dilakukan secara daring. 3 tugas praktikum kali ini yaitu membuat profil perikanan daerah, profil perikanan dunia dan studi kasus komoditas, serta efek Covid-19 kepada perikanan. Aku membuat Profil Perikanan Kabupaten Cilacap, untuk membuat profil itu, diperlukan data-data, aku mengambil data dari Badan Pusat Statistik yaitu Kabupaten Cilacap Dalam Angka 2018-2019-2020, dan data-data lain. Untuk profil perikanan dunia serta komoditas terpilih, aku mengambil data dari SOFIA 2018, ComtradeUN serta beberapa jurnal pendukung lainnya. Mau lihat hasil tugasku? Cekidot file berikut!
In Indonesia, there are 3 model of fisheries establishments: KUB, Pokdakan, and Poklashar. Our Fisheries Economy practice were conducted online. We got 3 assignments. First, Local Fisheries Profile. Next was Global Fisheries Profile and Commodition Case Study. Lastly, Covid-19 Effect to Fisheries. I gathered many data for 2 former assignment such as from Indonesian Statistic Institution, FAO SOFIA 2018, and ComtradeUN for world commodities. I chose Abalone, Haliotis spp., for my case study. If you want to see my work, you're welcome to see it, but it is in Indonesian though.

Perencanaan Usaha Perikanan atau PUP umumnya mempelajari kewirausahaan. Agak mirip dengan kelas Kewirausahaan di semester 2 lalu, seperti membuat Business Plan. Namun kali ini harus dilakukan dalam bidang perikanan. Di kelas ini juga kami mempelajari faktor resiko usaha, manajemen usaha, serta regulasi usaha perikanan dan kelautan.
My next class is Fisheries Business Planning. This class is highly related to Entrepreneurship class I took in the 2nd semester. We made fisheries themed Business Plan. We learned business risk faktor, business management, and Indonesian fisheries and marine regulation.

Terakhir yaitu kelas Nutrisi dan Manajemen Pakan Ikan atau singkatnya NPI, kami memperdalam kembali fisiologi sistem pencernaan ikan 🐟, kecernaan nutrien mikro & makro, aliran energi, bahan pakan, formulasi pakan, alur pengolahan pakan, manajemen & evaluasi pemberian pakan, serta manajemen penyimpanan pakan. Praktikum NPI cukup asyik dalam keadaan normal karena kita akan banyak kegiatan dengan alat di laboratorium dan memelihara ikan, juga kunjungan industri pabrik pakan, namun karena daring ya lambaikan tangan saja. 
At last, Nutrition and Fish Feed Management class. We went deeper to fish digestion system, macro and micro nutrient digestibility, energy flow, feed ingredients, feed formulation, feed processing scheme, feeding management and fish feed evaluation πŸŸ, and feed storage management. This class practice were supposed to be fun. We could mess around with feed milling machine and test machine a lot, we were even scheduled to go to fish feed mills, but sadly we weren't.

Terdapat 11 acara dalam praktikum Nutrisi dan Manajemen Pakan Ikan yaitu asistensi, pengenalan alat, pengenalan & identifikasi bahan, penyimpanan pakan, UCCP atau Uji Coba Pemberian Pakan, penyusunan formulasi ransum pakan, pembuatan pelet pakan ikan, WSDA atau Uji Water Stability & Daya Apung pakan, uji kadar lemak, kadar abu, kadar protein, serta kadar air pakan. Ini salah satu tugas acara penyimpanan pakan
We went through 11 practice topics. We were introduced to Nutrition and Feed laboratorium tools, and I must say our Department sure has enough machine to work on. Other topics are: Introduction and identification to feed ingredient, feed storage, fish feeding experiment, feed ransom formulation, fish pellet production, fish feed water stability and buoyancy test, a series of contents test (fat, protein, ash, and water). Untuk ujian dan responsi praktikum, kami ujian lewat ELOK & ELISA, website dari UGM, Google form, ketik di Word, dan ada juga yang tulis tangan. Begitulah pengalaman semester 4 ku~. 
By the way untuk berita organisasi Selam Perikanan UGM, kami gak jadi Latihan Perairan Terbuka di Tulamben, Bali. Hiks. Sekarang aku menjabat Koordinator Divisi Pelatihan, Penelitian, dan Pengembangan. 
For exams, we used ELOK & ELISA, both are UGM-based, Google form, Word document, and some lecturers demand handwriting. And with that, there goes my 4th semester ~
By the way, for your news, Fisheries Dive Unit UGM, the organisation I joined, was unsuccessful in holding Open Water Diver exercise that was scheduled on March 2020, at Tulamben, Bali. You know, the US Liberty shipwreck dive spot. And for further news, I  am not the Head of Equipment Division anymore, I am now the Head of Education, Research, and Development (ERD) Division!
