Semester Lima Daring Lagi (Online Again in Fifth Semester)

Wah ngga terasa sudah masuk 2021. πŸŽ‰ Semoga sehat dan cita-cita yang tahun lalu batal dilakukan, bisa dijalani di tahun ini ya. Disini aku mau cerita tentang pengalaman belajar daring secara penuh di semester lima ini. Untuk selanjutnya aku akan post tentang Kerja Lapangan & liburan selam ku di Situbondo. Tetap disimak!
First of all, happy 2021! πŸŽ‰ May we all stay healthy and the postponed dreams of yours come true in this year. This post will be about what I did and learned in fifth semester. For the next post, it will be about Field Practical Work (apprenticeship) and my recent vacation diving in Situbondo. Stay tuned!

Di semester ini aku hanya mengambil 22 kredit. Bisa sih ambil penuh sih tapi kurasa cukup segitu. Tanpa babibu langsung aja. Mata kuliah yang kuambil yaitu Parasit dan Penyakit Ikan 3 sks, Manajemen Kualitas Air 3 sks, Manajemen Akuakultur Tawar 3 sks, Budidaya Pakan Alami 3 sks, Genetika dan Pemuliaan Ikan 3 sks, Metodologi Penelitian 2 sks, Budidaya Ikan Hias dan Akuaskap 2 sks, Pendidikan Agama Islam 2 sks, dan Kerja Lapangan 2 sks. Hampir semuanya ada praktikum, tapi gatau nih kok GenMul sampai sekarang belum praktikum yak πŸ™Š.
I only took 22 credits this semester because I think that's good enough for now. There are 9 courses I took which are Parasite and Fish Disease (3), Water Quality Management (3), Aquaculture Management (3), Natural Feed Culture (3), Genetics and Fish Breeding (3), Research Methodology (2), Ornamental Fish Culture and Aquascape (2), Islamic Education (2), and Field Practical Work (2). Almost all of them has practice but until now, the Genetics and Fish Breeding practice still hasn't started πŸ™Š.

Perkuliahan kelas daring lumayan membosankan tapi berkat usaha dosen, asisten dan temen-temen, materinya bisa dipahami. Kami menggunakan berbagai macam platform untuk kuliah seperti Zoom, Google Meet, Google Classroom, Simaster, dan lain-lain. Yang sangat disayangkan itu praktikum daring 😞 dulu praktikum Manajemen Akuakultur Tawar panen Lele dari kolam langsung, suegerrr. Awal perkuliahan juga mundur, harusnya Agustus sudah masuk kuliah, ini baru mulai September. Jadi waktu kuliah dipangkas dari 14 pertemuan jadi 10 pertemuan. Sebelum UTS itu santai beud, 2 bulan berikutnya (November dan Desember) padet banget.
As you already guessed, online classes is boring and i better slept right through them, but because of my lecturer, practice assistant, and all of my friend, I think it's quite enjoyable and understandable. We used many platforms like Zoom Meeting, Google Meet, Google Classroom, Simaster (UGM learning apps), etc. It's very sad for online practice though. Normally in Aquaculture Management we will harvest our own Catfish from the ponds, but now? We only got to imagine it πŸ˜ž. The semester usually starts at early August, but this year it started from September, which means from 14-weeks study we only got 10-weeks. The first half of the semester went well but it all went down hill in November-December.

Di kelas Parasit dan Penyakit Ikan kami belajar mulai dari pendahuluan, parasit berupa protozoa seperti Ciliophora misal Trichodina dan I. multifiliis; Sarcomastigophora misal Amyloodinium. Banyak jenis yang kami pelajari terlebih di praktikum, tugasnya banyak lurr. Lalu parasit metazoa atau hewan seperti Mollusca, Crustacea seperti Copepoda misal Lernaea atau Branchiura misal Argulus, Platyhelminthes seperti Monogea (Gyrodactylus, Dactylogyrus, dan Benedinea), Digenea, Cestoda, dan Nematoda (Anisakis). Itu baru parasit, kemudian kita belajar Virus mulai dari virulogi umum, hingga masuk ke virus pada udang 🦐 seperti HPV, WSSV, TSV, IMnV, MrNV, dan yang sedang naik daun SHIV. Sementara virus yang menyerang ikan 🐟 seperti KHV, ISKNV, RSIV, dan VNNV. Mau lihat kayak apa sih tugas mata kuliah ini? Cekidot file berikut~
In Parasite and Fish Disease class we got to learn starting from protozoan parasite: Ciliophore like Trichodina and I. multifiliis; Sarcomastigophora like Amyloodinium. Metazoan parasite: Mollusc; Crustacean (Copepoda: Lernaea, Branchiura: Argulus); Platyhelminthes (Monogenea: Gyrodactylus, Dactylogyrus, Benedinea; Digenea; Cestode; Nematode: Anisakis). That many and it still just about parasite. After that we moved on to virus from general virulogy, shrimp viruses πŸ¦(HPV, WSSV, TSV, IMnV, MrNV, and the rising SHIV), and fish viruses πŸŸ (KHV, ISKNV, RSIV, and VNNV). If you're curious, here's one of my assignment from this class.

Tugas Review Parasit Protozoa (Protozoan Parasite Review Paper)

Belum ditambah penyakit bakterial dan fungal hehe. Disini kami mengundang dosen dari universitas lain seperti Prof. Dr. Esti dari Universitas Mulawarman dan Dr. Agus Setyawan dari Universitas Lampung. Dosen kami, Bu Indah Istiqomah, memberikan materi mengenai bakteri gram negatif Vibrio dan jamur Saprolegnia, Bu Esti mengajari kami Aeromonas dan Pseudomonas, dan Pak Agus membawakan materi APHND. Jos kali lah dosen-dosen kami.
The other half of semester we studied bacterial and fungal diseases from our guest lecturers: Prof. Dr. Esti from Mulawarman University and Dr. Agus Setyawan from Lampung University. Our lecturer, Mrs. Indah Istiqomah, taught us gram negative bacteria like Vibrio spp. and fungi like Saprolegnia, Mrs. Esti taught about Aeromonas and Pseudomonas, and lastly Mr. Agus taught APHNDiseases. 

Selanjutnya ada kelas Manajemen Akuakultur Tawar/MAT. Kami belajar mulai dari pendahuluan, ruang lingkup dan aspek-aspek manajemen akuakultur tawar, wadah, sistem, teknis, komoditas, analisa usaha dan banyak lainnya. Profesor kami ini sangat ahli dalam bidang akuakultur tawar dan mina padi, beliau juga menulis buku lo, ayo beli dan simak buku beliau berjudul "Manajemen Akuakultur Tawar" UGMPress, cekidot https://ugmpress.ugm.ac.id/en/product/perikanan/manajemen-akuakultur-tawar. Selain itu kami juga mengenal komoditas menarik selain ikan 🐟 bersirip seperti sidat, buaya πŸŠ, kodok 🐸, udang galah 🦐, dan lain-lain. Praktikum MAT cukup menonton video, menyimak presentasi, menggarap tugas, dan membuat laporan dari data sekunder. Simpel kali yak.
In Aquaculture Management class, the subject is about many aspects from Aquaculture: locations, containers, systems, technics, commodities, business analysis, issues, and many more. Our professor is expert in Aquaculture so we are in good hands. Below is the book he wrote for this course. Other than fin fish species πŸŸ, we learned about Anguilla eel, croc and alligator 🐊, frog πŸΈ, and fresh water shrimp πŸ¦. For Aquaculture practice, we watched videos, listened to presentation, did assignments, and wrote reports from secondary data. Simple.

Di kelas Manajemen Kualitas Air/MKA, kukira materi kuliah sebenarnya telah disinggung dari semester-semester lalu, namun disini kami mendalami kembali mengenai kualitas air πŸ’§. Mulai dari parameter seperti suhu, kekeruhan/turbiditas, DO, CO2, PH, alkalinitas, kesadahan, salinitas, amonia, sulfur, fosfor, plankton, bahan organik dan inorganik lainnya. Selain itu kami juga mendalami aerasi, filtrasi, dan perlakuan-perlakuan lainnya. Praktikum MKA seperti MAT kami cukup menonton video, menyimak presentasi, dan membuat laporan dengan data sekunder di Google Classroom. Asoy.
In Water Quality Management πŸ’§ class we deepened our understanding about water quality. Starting from water temperature, turbidity, DO, CO2, PH, alkalinity, hardness, salinity, ammonia, sulphur, phosphor, plankton, and other organic-inorganic matters. We discussed aeration, filtration, and other treatments. The practice is the same like before, we watched videos, listened to presentation, did assignments, and wrote reports from secondary data in Google Classroom. Simple. (2)

Ikan adalah hewan, mesti dia akan memakan hewan lainnya kan? Di kelas Budidaya Pakan Alami yang cukup menarik ini kami belajar mengenai fitoplankton dan zooplankton serta cara mengkulturnya seperti Spirulina (Arthrospira), Chlorella, Daphnia, dan Artemia. Kami juga mendapatkan buku dari Pak Alim loh, komplit banget. Kami diajari pakan alami seperti Tubifex, Cacing Tanah, larva Chironomus, Maggot, dan Azolla. Kalau kalian penasaran bentuknya, cari sendiri di Google ya! Pakan alami ini perlu dalam akuakultur karena menekan biaya produksi dan nutrisinya yang baik, kan bosan juga si ikan hanya makan pelet seumur hidupnya πŸ˜…. Praktikum seperti biasa, hanya menggarap tugas, menyimak presentasi dan video, lalu menulis laporan. Seperti apa sih tugas mata kuliah ini? Simak di tautan berikut!
Fish are animals, which mean they consume others to survive right? In Natural Feed Culture class, the second most intriguing course, we were taught about phytoplankton, zooplankton, and their culture techniques such as Spirulina (Arthrospira), Chlorella, Daphnia, and Artemia. I also got a copy of the book he wrote. We learned tubifex, earthworm, Chironomus larvae, BSF maggot, and Azolla. If you're not familiar with those terms, you can googled it. Natural feeds are important in aquaculture because they can reduce feed cost, have good nutrition, and those poor fishes that eats pellet all their live will be happy πŸ˜…. Di Kelas Genetika dan Pemuliaan kami diajar oleh dosen yang sama seperti di Dasar-dasar Genetika yaitu Tuty Arisuryanti, Ph.D dari Fakultas Biologi. Beliau sangat baik hati dalam mengajari kami mulai dari pendahuluan, inbreeding, variasi genetik 🧬, teknik molekular , heritabilitas, seleksi, karakterisasi kromosom hingga poliploidisasi. Kemudian kami diajak berdiskusi mengenai ginogenesis, androgenesis, poliploidisasi, sex reversal hingga Genetic Modified AquAdvantage Salmon. Tahukah kamu salmon tersebut dikembangkan dari tahun 1990 dengan menempelkan gen promotor hormon pertumbuhan dari ikan Ocean Pout dan gen hormon pertumbuhan Chinook Salmon supaya pertumbuhan Atlantic Salmon pesat. Baru lah pada 2015 dan 2019 US FDA memperbolehkan salmon ini beredar. Aman kok, tenang saja!
For the next course, we got Genetics and Fish Breeding class taught by Tuty Arisuryanti, Ph.D from Faculty of Biology that also taught us before on Principle of Genetics in 4th semester. She's so kind and taught us about inbreeding, genetic variation πŸ§¬, molecular technic, heritability, selection, chromosome characterization, and polyploidy. Then we discussed about ginogenesis, androgenesis, polyploidy, sex reversal, up to GMO AquAdvantage Salmon. If you didn't know yet, that salmon were developed in 1990 by attaching growth hormone (GH) promotor gen from Ocean Pout and GH from Chinook Salmon to Atlantic Salmon. Then in 2015 and 2019, US FDA finally allowed those salmon to sold commercially by labeling them with GMO labels. Theoretically, I think, it's safe!

Do you support or object this salmon? Same age but different growth rate. More efficient and of course, more meat!

Kelas Metodologi Penelitian, ini kelas terserius dan termenarik di semester ini karena mulai membahas skripsi kami. Seperti pada umumnya kami mendalami tentang tema penelitian, rancangan penelitian, data dan cuplikan, metode dan tipe analisis data, hingga penulisan dan kode etik ilmiah. The Research Methodology class is the most serious and intriguing course we took this semester because we discussed about our undergraduate research. We discussed about research theme, research plan, data and sampling, methods and types of data analysis, up until ethic codes and how to write our papers. Making sure of our understanding, they gave us assignment to make a simple research proposal. Here's my proposal about microbial communities in abalone's gut, and probably will be my research-to-be too!

Inilah kelas yang sangat menjaga kesehatan mentalku selama #DiRumahAja, kelas Budidaya Ikan Hias dan Akuaskap. Kami diminta memelihara ikan hias 🐠 dan membuat akuaskap. Oiya selain itu, untuk Kerja Lapangan aku memutuskan mengambil lokasi di Sleman mengenai ikan hias Guppy Poecilia reticulata di Swasti Farm Yogyakarta. This class is useful for our mental health as we study from home. That is Ornamental Fish Culture and Aquascape course. We were asked to take care of a fish and possibly breed them, and make our own aquascape. By the way, my Field Practical Work (apprenticeship) will took place at Swasti Farm Yogyakarta on 4th January until 5th February where I will breed Guppies. Swasti Farm is a famous Guppy breeder group in Indonesia, you can check them out at those links above.

I picked Molly as my main interest. They're easy to take care of. I mainly breed Balloon Molly and Coral Red Platy. They're healthy and the water quality's good even with simple filtration system. Fries everywhere too!

Terakhir, di kelas Pendidikan Agama Islam πŸ“– yang diampu Rima Ronika, M.Si. dari Fakultas Filsafat. Disini kami lebih banyak berdiskusi mengenai beberapa hal seperti: Spiritualitas; Agama, Keluarga, dan Kebahagiaan; Akhlak dan Tasawuf; Membangun paradigma Qur'ani; Islam di Indonesia; Iman, Islam, dan Ihsan; Isu Kontemporer yang meliputi radikalisme, terorisme, pluralisme, dan kesetaraan gender; dan terakhir ada Agama dan Modernisasi. πŸ“–
Lastly, my Islamic Education πŸ“– course taught by Rima Ronika, M.Si. from Faculty of Philosophy. Here we discussed lots of things such as Spirituality; Religion, Family, and Happiness; Morals and Tasawuf; Qur'an paradigm construct; Islam in Indonesia; Iman, Islam, and Ihsan; Contemporary issues such as radicalism, terrosism, pluralism, and gender equality; and lastly Religion in modernization age. Despite of violent actions out there, please trust me, we are peaceful.

Yah sudah habisss. Seperti itu lah kerjaan kelas kuliah kemarin. Selain itu di semester ini kami berunding untuk memutuskan siapa dosen pembimbing skripsi kami. Deg deg serrr. Setelah diskusi 2 kali, akhirnya sudah tetap. Aku dan 4 temen lainnya akan dibimbing oleh Bu Indah karena mengambil tema mengenai bakteri non pathogen dan kesehatan ikan. Oiya kegiatanku di Selam Perikanan cukup terhambat. Mungkin cuma beberapa kali kegiatan yang bisa dihitung jari. Yang paling besar adalah Webinar Pengenalan Selam Perikanan: Dunia Bawah Air buat mahasiswa baru. Kami juga mendapat perlengkapan selam senilai ** juta hehe 😊.
Ahh we got to the end already. That's about it all, folks. Emm by the way, we (Aquaculture Class of 2018) discussed about choosing our research advisor. *freeze* We all got intense as this is the culmination point in undergraduate study. After 2 discussions, finally, it has been decided. Four of my friends and I will be advised by Mrs. Indah, the one who taught us about bacteria in Parasite and Fish Disease class because of our interest in non pathogen bacteria and fish health. Oh and also, our paces of activites in Fisheries Diving Unit are slowing down, we can count the number of meetings with our available fingers even. The biggest one was a webinar about underwater world for freshman students. We also got ** millions rupiah funds for our diving gear πŸ˜Š.
